We’ve got another Ohio show today, this one from 1988. This show is of some historical note because it’s the first time that future band member Bruce Hornsby ever played with the Dead, sitting in on accordion for Sugaree and Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again.
Most of the highlights here come in the first set. The band starts with an interesting Feel Like a Stranger that segues into a more than passable Franklin’s Tower. Cassidy and Deal at the end of the set are both good versions, with Cassidy in particular containing a few memorable moments.
According to the comments, it was incredibly hot at this show, and the band seems winded in the second set. Now this could also be because they begin said second set with Victim Or The Crime, Blow Away, Foolish Heart> Terrapin Station which, despite what you might feel about Terrapin, is probably not the recipe for a barn burner, especially in 100 degree heat with 1988 post-coma Jerry. The rest of the second set is just meh.
