Today in Grateful Dead History: September 4, 1980 – Providence Civic Center, Providence, RI

Dancing Skeletons

Time is short today, so it’s good that we have what I consider to be a pretty standard 1980’s show that was nonetheless released as part of the Download Series Vol. 7.

I don’t understand the hype, but there are a couple of highlights worth listening to.  First, after Ramble on Rose, the band pauses for a little while and then launches into Supplication without Lazy Lightning, which is very unusual.  However, there’s nothing particularly interesting (musically) about this version other than the missing Lazy Lightning.  The jam out of Space into The Other One is good, with lots of musical space between Jerry and the drummers.

That’s about all I’ve got.  Nothing bad here, just nothing really dynamic either.  Check it out anyway:  https://archive.org/details/gd1980-09-04.fob.nak700.rolfe.miller.93752.sbeok.flac16
